Australian cotton organization pays close attention to parliament passed carbon tax legislation

The Australian Cotton Organisation has been paying close attention to each stage of parliament’s adoption of carbon tax legislation.

This is still an important policy area for Australian cotton. The Australian Cotton Organisation stated that they will continue to work with policy makers and the Australian National Farming Consortium (NFF) to ensure that the government receives clear information from growers and industry that the policy will have an impact on agriculture. Australian Cotton will also work with growers and industry to understand what this policy means to them, Australian Cotton may also use policy influence to ease the pressure on additional costs, and what new funding options can support this.

On Wednesday, October 12, the Legislature passed a clean energy legislation program. The purpose of this legislation is to implement a carbon tax policy (announced in July this year), carbon pricing will take effect, the government will promote renewable energy and clean energy technology investment, and take action to reduce carbon dioxide pollution on the land.

This legislative plan needs the approval of the two houses before it can be implemented. Now the legislative proposal will be submitted to the Senate. The goal of the government is to adopt legislation by the end of the year to set an ambitious timetable and plan to implement CO2 prices from July 2012.
