Tianjin University of Technology professor successfully developed "air-conditioning clothing"

The team led by Prof. Zhang Xingxiang of Tianjin Polytechnic University successfully developed the “Smart Heat Storage Temperature Control Fiber”. With the temperature-controlled textile made of this fiber, when the temperature rises and falls in the outside world, the fiber will automatically lower or increase the temperature by more than 3°C. The technology will be applied to the research and development of new cold and warm clothing.

It is reported that the most comfortable skin temperature is 33.4°C. If the skin temperature of any part of the body is more than ±4.5°C from the temperature, the human body will feel cold and warm. Thermal storage temperature control fiber is a high-tech fiber that automatically senses changes in the ambient temperature and intelligently regulates temperature. The fiber fabric can absorb, store, redistribute, and release heat. When the ambient temperature is low, the temperature inside the clothes is automatically increased. When the ambient temperature is high, the temperature inside the clothes is automatically lowered to make the temperature inside the clothes more comfortable.

Tianjin Polytechnic University began research and development of heat storage and temperature control fibers in the 1990s. Zhang Xingxiang said that the research team of the University of Technology’s research and development team used homemade high-temperature phase change material microcapsules (MicroPCMs) in heat storage and temperature control fibers. And products reach the international advanced level. The thermostatic textiles successfully developed have the same thermal insulation performance as ordinary textiles of the same specification, and its internal temperature is 3°C or more lower than that of ordinary textiles during the heating and cooling process, and lasts for 30 minutes.
