E-commerce Blue Book: Textile Clothing Ranked First
In a recent release in Beijing, the "Information Blue Book: Analysis and Forecast of China's Informatization Situation (2010)" highlighted key developments in China's e-commerce sector. According to the report, in 2009, China's e-commerce transactions reached a staggering 3.85 trillion yuan, with the textile and clothing industry leading the way in terms of transaction volume.
As a vital component of China’s economy, the Internet-based economy has played a crucial role in boosting domestic demand, sustaining growth, and mitigating the impact of the global financial crisis. The online payment sector experienced explosive growth, with an annual increase of 110.2%, while online shopping saw a remarkable 93.7% rise in transaction volume. These two sectors are considered among the most representative in China’s e-commerce development, contributing significantly to the overall growth of the digital economy.
The Blue Book also provided insights into the distribution of e-commerce activities across various industries. The top 10 sectors included textiles and apparel, digital home appliances, steel and machinery, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, building materials, agriculture and forestry, hardware, packaging and printing, food and beverages, and gifts and jewelry. Textiles and apparel took the lead with a 14.3% share, followed closely by digital home appliances at 10.4%. This data underscores the diverse and expanding nature of China's e-commerce landscape, reflecting its growing influence on both the national and global economic stages.
