E-commerce Blue Book: Textile Clothing Ranked First

Business News Agency, September 15 — A recent report titled "Information Blue Book: Analysis and Forecast of China's Informatization Situation (2010)" was released in Beijing. The publication highlights that in 2009, China's e-commerce transactions reached 3.85 trillion yuan, with the textile and clothing sector leading the market. According to the Blue Book, the Internet economy plays a vital role in China's economic development, especially in boosting domestic demand, maintaining growth, and mitigating the impact of the global financial crisis. Online payment transactions experienced an impressive annual growth rate of 110.2%, while online shopping saw a 93.7% increase in transaction volume. These two sectors are considered key drivers of e-commerce growth in the country. E-commerce has emerged as one of the most dynamic areas within the broader digital economy. The report also provides insights into the industry distribution of e-commerce activities. The top 10 sectors include textiles and apparel, digital home appliances, steel machinery, chemical medicines, construction materials, agriculture and forestry, hardware, packaging and printing, food and beverages, and gifts and jewelry. Among these, the textile and apparel industry accounted for 14.3% of total e-commerce transactions, followed by digital home appliances at 10.4%. This data underscores the significant role that consumer goods and retail sectors continue to play in shaping China’s digital economy. With the rapid advancement of technology and increasing internet penetration, the e-commerce landscape in China is expected to evolve further, creating new opportunities and reshaping traditional industries.
