Zhejiang Fashion Retail Future Trend Symposium in Lishui

On September 13, 2010, a significant seminar on the future development trends of the apparel retail industry in Zhejiang took place in the conference hall of Lishui International Hotel. Industry experts and clothing retailers gathered to discuss the evolving landscape of the sector, as well as the challenges currently faced by the market. The event was filled with insightful conversations and valuable exchanges that sparked new ideas among participants. This seminar was jointly organized by the Zhejiang Garment Industry Association and China Garment Network, with support from several other key organizations such as the Zhejiang Capital Investment Promotion Association, China Fashion News, and Shanghai Luohao Garment Co., Ltd. The seminar was planned to be held in multiple cities across Zhejiang Province, and the session in Zhangzhou generated considerable interest and enthusiasm locally. The event kicked off with a compelling speech by Mr. Jin Zhonghao, a member of the Zhejiang Garment Industry Association. He highlighted how economic globalization has accelerated the pace of the domestic apparel market, offering great opportunities for local garment companies. However, he also pointed out that increasing competition is making it harder for retailers to succeed. According to Jin, the future of the retail industry will focus more on store ambiance, customer service, and product quality. He summarized this with a four-tier model: top-tier shops sell culture, second-tier sell brands, third-tier sell products, and fourth-tier sell hard work. Next, Ms. Wang Hongyan, manager of China Garment Network's International Station, delivered an engaging talk. She emphasized how the rapid development of the internet and information technology has shortened the gap between time and space, accelerating the spread of fashion trends. In the past, it could take up to a year for fashion trends to reach second-tier cities, but now it takes just a week. With global brand expansion happening quickly, she urged retailers to adapt by learning and evolving. Some brands are already exploring new distribution models, such as affiliate marketing, which promises zero inventory, profit-sharing, and low risk. It’s expected that such models will become the norm in the near future. The highlight of the day came from Guo Min, a senior lecturer from Zhejiang University’s Private Education Research Center and deputy secretary-general of Zhejiang Merchants Capital Investment Promotion Co., Ltd. His insights on terminal sales management resonated strongly with all attendees. As an expert in both investment consulting and private education, Guo provided a three-part analysis of successful retail strategies. He stressed the importance of customer service, followed by product quality, and emphasized that excellent service is key to retaining customers. He also discussed the role of store design, visual presentation, and data-driven decision-making in enhancing retail performance. Additionally, he covered the retail lifecycle and practical methods to boost sales. Attendees were highly engaged, taking notes and actively asking questions throughout his presentation. Overall, the seminar proved to be a great success, offering valuable knowledge and inspiration to local apparel dealers. One child clothing retailer shared that the event had given her new perspectives on the industry and that she found it worth the trip. She expressed hope that similar seminars would be held in the future to continue supporting the growth of the apparel retail sector.
